James Simeon Whitsett in 1925 at the age of 80. His picture appeared in a Deaf Smith County, Texas history in an article written by Sim's granddaughter Gladys Murphy. Helen Eller of Texas, Sim's great-great granddaughter, sent it to me along with a few other photos. To see those photos, go to: |
Pennington's Rooster of Quantrill's Guerillas This photo which has been misidentified as Sim Whitsett, is actually John W. Williams, a Civil War Confederate veteran but not a Quantrill Raider. After it was published as a photo of Sim Whitsett it was identified by the family of Williams. Supporting this is the fact it was taken at a Raiders reunion that Sim Whitsett did not attend. |
